The Collaborative Research Network in Communication and Communication Technology (CCT) will now be called the Collaborative Research Network in Human Communication.

Our research network in Human Communication has been set up to initiate, promote and maintain inter-disciplinary research around the research theme of Communication and Communication Technology.  We offer:

What is Human Communication?

Communication is about sharing and exchanging information. We all do it, but the ways in which we do it may vary. Therefore the Collaborative Research Network (CRN) in Human Communication includes the full gamut of research areas starting from disciplines focusing more on ‘communication’, such as:

  • English and modern languages
  • Textual analysis
  • Philosophy of communication
  • Sign language and acousmatics
  • Portable Computing
  • Microwave Technology
  • Computational Linguistics
  • Speech Recognition,
  • natural language processing,
  • e-learning, and human-computer interfaces.

What are Collaborative Research Networks (CRN)?

The CRNs were set up in 2004-2005 as part of the University Research Strategy, which defines nine overarching, interdisciplinary Research Themes and four Enabling Technologies building upon existing areas of excellence in the university. The aims of the thirteen CRNs are to match these Themes and Technologies and to stimulate and foster the relevant areas of studies by coordinating activities that promote collaborative research internally and externally.
